This Ottawa River Basement project marks one of the more complex, detailed, and difficult basement renovations to date. This was an unfinished space, and there were many design obstacles we had to work around. Designed by Suite Spot Design, the project would not have come together without her and the help of other amazing contributors (thank you to all).
One of the most important requests our clients had was to create a “WOW” space where they can entertain guests and feel like they are in a swanky Irish pub of sorts. Christie, from Suite Spot Design came up with a few iterations of bar designs and landed on this one partially due to the restraints she had to consider while designing. Basements can be tricky with ductwork, structural beams and posts, limitations with plumbing, electrical, the list goes on, all while trying to maintain an aesthetically pleasing space that looks intentional. To continue the rich and bold design theme, she went with a combination of walnut millwork, and of course our favourite cabinet colour, Black Beauty by Benjamin Moore. The countertops and backsplash are Titanium Quartzite in a leathered finish. The movement and character within the stone is STUNNING and brought that drama the clients were after.
Feature walls that double as secret storage are a fan fave. Our clients needed some serious storage, but they didn’t want that to compromise the design. Challenge accepted. Suite Spot designed a walnut slatted door front that when closed, looks entirely like a fixed feature wall. Push the doors – and they open! A huge thanks to the House of Fine Carpentry for making this happen. Not to mention the walnut ceiling design… Simply perfection.
Another example of brilliant vision was the custom wine tasting cabinet Christie dreamed up for an otherwise awkward nook. She had a vision, we knew it would be perfect for this little vignette, and although it took some work to get our clients on board, they essentially trusted us with the vision to proceed. When they saw it finished, they absolutely loved it.
Trust, folks, is the key to a successful project. Our clients hire us for a reason, and without trust, it can be a long uphill battle to get to the finish line of a successful and beautiful finished product. We appreciate our clients’ trust in building their projects and allowing us to use our skills to bring it all together.
